A true entrepreneur is one, who embarks on a journey with a clear vision, working with imagination, insight and creates a team of people bringing them around together with a shared sense of purpose. He is a social innovator and change agent who is able to see the big picture and think strategically, creating the dawning of new eras for the benefit of forthcoming generations who enjoy the fruits of his labour for years together.

Sukhraj Babulal Nahar, the Founder and Chairman of Nahar Group, is one such leader who lives by this adage. It is this vision that has enabled him to take a stance that is beyond bricks and mortar, which is to build homes as well as to contribute to the welfare of society with passion.

Born in Bhinmal in Jallore District, Rajasthan to Smt. Shantidevi and Shri Babulal Nahar, Sukhraj came to Mumbai at the impressionable age of 16 with a dream to create landmark structures and to fulfill his earnest desire to serve humanity.

It is interesting to note that Sukhraj married Sohini Devi, a bride from yet another Bhinmal family of Smt. Laxmidevi Bafna and Shri. Moolchand Bafna.

It was his risk taking abilities, courage, perseverance and will power to succeed that resulted in his kick-starting construction of his first residential project, Dimple Apartments in Santacruz. And there was no looking back thereafter. Sukhraj developed strategies to turn his vision into reality by constructing over 15 million sq. ft of some of the landmark residential and commercial structures in India, especially in Mumbai in the last 38 years. Under his dynamic leadership, the group has forayed in various parts like Pune, Ahmadabad, Rajasthan and others in this challenging journey, his life partner Sohini Devi stood by his side as a strong pillar and extended her support in putting him in the path of success.

The innovator that he is, Sukhraj Nahar not only conceptualized mini-townships in Mumbai but developed one at Mulund, Sarvodaya Nagar where currently 700 families live happily enjoying a host of facilities and amenities that include a Jain temple.

Spurred on by the overwhelming response to this unique housing complex, Sukhraj Nahar, a passionate nature lover, wanted to provide ‘breathing spaces’ for home seekers and is currently focused on creating a dream township, ‘Nahar’s Amrit Shakti’ in Chandivali near Powai in Mumbai. The project which is being developed in phases, offers comfortable and luxurious homes in eco-friendly environment with world-class facilities and amenities including an exclusive clubhouse, garden, health club, swimming pool, restaurant, medical centre, an ICSE school and shopping plaza. Over 3000 families including businessmen, senior executives, NRIs, corporate houses both Indian and Multinational, are already residing in 38 residential towers.

Designed by the internationally acclaimed architect Hafeez Contractor and reputed Landscaping firms from Singapore, Belt Collins and TLS, an over 9-lakh sq. feet Podium, the largest of its kind in Mumbai, is now being created by Sukhraj Nahar, at Nahar’s Amrit Shakti township. The uniqueness of this podium is that atop this gigantic structure, a 5.15 lakh sq. ft. garden adorned with a huge expanse of lush green spreads, vibrant flowers, plants and flamboyant water bodies is being built. The podium is designed to host 22 luxurious residential towers, and it will have the largest parking structure – a three storey-parking facility for over 3500 cars below the ground floor level. This would prevent car movements or parking at the ground floor level allowing the residents to enjoy uninterrupted walks amongst rushing waterfalls and gushing fountains. Another major and distinctive feature of the project is that it boasts of an approximate 50,000 sq.ft. one of its kind Club House complete with gym, swimming pools, tennis and squash courts, indoor games area, fine dining restaurants and other facilities and is likely to be the largest Club House in any residential complex in Mumbai, once the ongoing construction work is completed, soon.

Nahar’s Amrit Shakti Township will also be equipped with a departmental store, a medical centre, an ICSE School, a Jain temple and an internationally designed Mall & Multiplex to provide an all encompassing feeling of residing in a township. All these projects are at various stages of completion.

Another pioneering and customer centric initiative of Sukhraj Nahar was to introduce the unique housing loan scheme in collaboration with HDFC. Under the scheme, a home-seeker at Nahar’s Amrit Shakti pays only 15% on booking the flat and the balance 85% on possession in EMIs. This six-year old scheme has proved to be lucrative for the buyers and has been an unprecedented success.

The couple is ready with their helping hand for those who deserve education, health care and for people affected by natural calamities.

Together, the Nahars have established and are running six primary schools in rural areas of Rajashthan. They have also set up medical research centers in Bhinmal and AhmadabadMember and for implementing the smooth functioning of these activities they have founded Trusts and Institutions – Sukhraj Babulal Charitable Trust, Sukhraj Babulal Nahar Charitable Hospital & Research Centre and Shantidevi Babulal Nahar Charitable Trust of which the Chairman is Shri. Sukhraj Nahar and Smt. Sohini Devi is a trustee. In Mumbai, through Rajasthan Welfare Association, they continue to contribute to various community welfare issues and have instituted a series of Awards to recognize and honor excellence in various fields. Religious by nature, Nahars have constructed Jain temples in Mumbai and Rajasthan.

For his immense contribution to the social causes and community welfare, Sukhraj Nahar has been honored with numerous awards including the prestigious Mahavir & Mahatma Award by the Times of India Group and Hindi Bhashi Achievers’ Award instituted by Navbharat Times. Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra honored Mr. Nahar with a special award for the valuable assistance rendered to the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai in dealing with the situation arising from the unprecedented rains and floods in Mumbai on 26/27th July 2005.
